How to build and approve a business budget

Business Budgeting is separate from the personal Budget. It collects department forms and consolidates master, operating, financial and cash budgets. You build a budget, then Distribute, Submit, Consolidate, Propose and Approve it in order. An approved version is locked. Once you have one, you can turn on posting control to hold expense or CAPEX postings for higher approval.

What this does to your books

Draft budgets post nothing. Posting control changes nothing until you switch it on. When budget control is on, a covered cash-out transaction within budget posts normally to its mapped expense or asset account, paid from Cash. An over-budget or unbudgeted transaction posts nothing until it is approved.

Questions, answered

Can I edit an approved budget in Orbit Finance?

No. An approved budget is a locked version and cannot be edited. Making a change creates the next version, so the approved figures stay on record.

What happens if a transaction is over budget?

If budget control is ON, an over-budget or unbudgeted transaction posts nothing until it is approved. This ensures higher approval is obtained before the entry is recorded.

Can I use the personal Budget for company control?

No, you should not use the personal Budget for company control. Business Budgeting is a separate module designed specifically for departmental forms and consolidated business budgets.
