What is the Runway module for?
Runway is a coverage measure, not a forecast. It divides current spendable cash by average monthly expenses. It does not assume future sales, bills, borrowing, or investment returns. Use it to decide whether to cut spending, preserve cash, or build a larger reserve.
How do I measure my current runway?
- Review Cash available and Average monthly expenses. The notes beneath them say whether each figure came from your books or was entered manually.
- Replace unusual figures, such as a temporary cash balance or a month that omits an annual expense. The result updates while you type.
- Read Months of runway as the number of months current cash covers at that expense rate. Use it to decide whether to cut spending, preserve cash or build a larger reserve.
What counts as spendable cash?
Spendable cash includes balances in bank and cash accounts. Credit-card capacity and illiquid assets are not emergency cash. Do not count credit limits or investments that cannot be sold quickly as cash.
How is the average calculated?
The module uses a whole-month average. This uses completed months so an incomplete current month does not make spending look artificially low. If your recorded spending history is not representative, replace the default figure.
Does Runway save my changes?
No. Runway only reads balances and spending averages. It saves nothing and posts no debit or credit. Changing either field changes only this temporary scenario. The scenario disappears when you close the calculator.
