How to record personal tax relief claims

The Tax Relief module tracks personal tax deductions for your individual filing. It does not affect business accounts. Record each claim with a receipt, check the capped totals, and view the final figure in the Income Tax screen. This ensures your tax estimate is accurate and every claim has supporting evidence.

What is this module for?

Personal tax relief reduces your taxable income before rates are applied. This screen stores your claims for the year, one row per receipt. It feeds the Income Tax estimate but does not post to your business Profit and Loss or Balance Sheet. Relief belongs to you as an individual, not the company.

How do I record a claim?

  1. Press Add claim at the top right or the plus icon on a relief row.
  2. Pick the specific Relief from the list. Group headings cannot be selected.
  3. Enter the Amount in RM and the Date on the receipt.
  4. Set For to Self, Spouse, Child or Parent, and type the name in Which person.
  5. Press Attach a receipt to upload a photo or PDF up to 15 MB.
  6. Press Save. The claim appears under its relief and the top figures update.

How do I read the headline figures?

  1. Look at You may claim. This is the total after individual caps are applied.
  2. Look at You spent. This is the raw total of your receipts before caps.
  3. Check the Over the caps card if it appears. It shows the gap between spent and claimable amounts.
  4. Open a category to see which relief caused the overage. Amber figures show the amount over the cap.

How do I claim from an existing expense?

  1. Go to Cash In and Out and open a saved money out row.
  2. Scroll to the Tax relief block and press Claim as tax relief.
  3. Choose a relief. The amount is prefilled. Reduce it if only part qualifies.
  4. Press Claim. The claim appears on Tax Relief and links to the transaction. Do not also add the same receipt by hand, or it is claimed twice.

How does this affect my tax estimate?

  1. Open Income Tax from the sidebar.
  2. Look at the Reliefs block. Figures come from the same claims and capping rules.
  3. Check the total relief line and the tax payable underneath it.
  4. Return to Tax Relief to add missing claims. The estimate updates automatically.

What this does to your books

This module posts nothing to your accounts. No debit, credit, or ledger row is created. Claims are stored against your relief schedule and feed the Income Tax estimate only. If you paid for the item from business funds, that movement is recorded separately in Cash In and Out.

Questions, answered

Does tax relief affect my business profit and loss?

No. Personal tax relief is for your individual filing, not the company. The module does not post to your Profit and Loss, Trial Balance, or Balance Sheet. It only updates your personal income tax estimate.

What happens if I claim without a receipt?

LHDN can ask for the receipt up to seven years after you file. If you cannot produce it, the relief is disallowed and you pay the tax plus a penalty. Always attach a photo or PDF to your claim.

Why is my claim lower than my spending?

Each relief has a cap. The app applies these limits automatically. If you spend more than the cap, the excess is not claimable and appears as money over the cap. The caps built into the app are the YA 2025 schedule, so check hasil.gov.my for your filing year before you submit.
